Summary


Successful completion of this apprenticeship will provide students with an , an NVQ Level 2 or 3 and integrated practical training and assessment for light vehicle trainees.

Generally a 2 year programme based upon day release. However, the programme may be modified according to your professional experiences.

 

Description


Level 2 compulsory modules:
• Contribute to workplace good housekeeping
• Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
• Maintain positive working relationships
• Carry out routine vehicle maintenance
• Remove and replace engine units and components
• Remove and replace electrical auxiliary units and components
• Remove and replace vehicle chassis units and components

To gain the IMI (Institute of the Motor Industry) Technical Certificate you will need to complete the programme. The two qualifications may be studied independently. However, to achieve a balanced package, both should be studied at the same time. Functional Skills will feature as part of both qualifications.

Entry Requirements


College entrants will be 16 years of age and over and have at least four GCSEs at grade E or above plus a College interview and initial assessment.

You will need an employer to sponsor you. This process needs to start as soon as you feel you want to become a mechanic. Often the offer of an apprenticeship comes from work experience or voluntary work, so always be on the look-out for opportunities. We can help you to find placements and can also transfer you to an apprenticeship from a full-time programme at any time.
