Industrial leaders from across the West Country listened to Mark Duddridge, Managing Director of Ginsters, talk about business change last week during Somerset College’s latest Leadership event.
The session, ‘Changing Practices’, was the third event of Somerset College’s Leadership series.
During the presentation Mark talked about how Ginsters improved their reputation locally in Cornwall through a number of projects.
Ginsters recognised that investing in staff was the best way to remain sustainable. To accomplish this they had to become more community focused, and be part of the community from where their staff comes from.
Mark said: ‘There are many benefits to businesses that identify the need to change and follow it through with well thought out and well executed projects. Even the smallest improvement can have a big positive effect.’
Rachel Davies, Principal at Somerset College, said: ‘Mark Duddridge’s presentation was very thought provoking and demonstrated how you can improve your reputation locally. We are thankful to Mark for sharing his ideas with us during the session.’
Roy Poole, from Numatic International, said: ‘There’s always been a role for change in leadership, but managers are not necessarily leaders, and these talks help greatly. It was an opportunity to learn from like minded people and share ideas.’
Delegates also had the opportunity to take part in workshops on ‘Changing Practices in a Changing World’ and ‘What is Corporate Social Responsibility’.
Somerset College are holding a series focusing on Leadership which brings successful leaders to Somerset College to share the secrets of their success with business leaders and managers. The next event in the series will look at the role of sales and marketing and will take place in October.
