Train to Gain

As part of the Train to Gain service, you may be able to get fully or partially-funded training for your employees for NVQs under the Government scheme (subject to eligibility criteria). If you are a business that employs less than 50 employees with eligible qualifications, this may also include contribution to wage cost (see www.traintogain.gov.uk for further details).

Somerset College is an approved training provider for this scheme. Train to Gain is a Government-led initiative, in conjunction with the Learning Skills Council, aiming to ensure that more people hold at least Level 2 qualifications in their related workforce sectors.

When Train to Gain was first introduced a couple of years ago, it enabled employees that didn't hold a full level 2 qualification (equivalent to 5 or more D-G passes at GCSE) to gain a NVQ level 2 without charging either the employee or the employer for the fees. Whilst this is still available, Train to Gain has grown to include other free and partially-funded qualifications.
